Back in the fall of 2000, one of the true highlights of my first "real" year in Germany (not that Intermenno didn't count, but my year as an exchange student meant I was really on my own) was the day I realized that I could listen to NPR here, thanks to the strong American military presensce in Hessen. Of course, that meant listening to Morning Edition at noon and All Things Considered at 10 p.m., but still! Maybe that's one of the things that kept me here, because NPR was one of the American things I sorely missed. My high school journalism teacher got me listening to it, back in the day of flannel, Doc Martens and Pearl Jam. Every time she had to cart us to a competition or fair or whatever, she had Kansas Public Radio on in the van.
Thanks to DSL, I'm not dependent on the military staying here in order for me to continue listening to my beloved NPR — which is good, considering my pacifist tendencies and all. Anyway, I obviously don't take advantage of their website enough, because I just today stumbled upon their Live Concerts Series. There's a whole jackpot of music just waiting to be listened to, from the likes of Wilco, David Gray, Son Volt, Paul Simon, Barenaked Ladies, The White Stripes, Bright Eyes, etc. Listen and enjoy!
