On the Road

Well, there's a lot to be learned when you're doing international travel with a five-month-old Harper. Like how United will give you a duffel bag and call it a bassinette. Or how no airlines seem to offer pre-boarding for families with children anymore. Or how Delta is just a group of assholes with check-in boxes, and when you ask if you can be checked in by a real person, the woman behind the counter just tells you, "I'm with Northwest." Yeah, well, bite me.

Harper has been a great little traveler, and even our being delayed for two hours in Kansas City and having to literally run for our connecting flight in Atlanta didn't seem to bother her. Nor did having to sit next to the most hillbilliest of families on the flight to Orlando (two guesses as to where they were from; that will be a post for later).

Kansas was great, and if I could transplant all of my wonderful German benefits to the States, I would move to Lawrence in a second. Yeah, that's right. Lawrence. Do they let K-State grads live there? I'd even be willing to give up my NRA membership. We had such a great time catching up with old friends and were made to feel right at home in every home we stayed in. Now we're in Florida, where I feel like my skin could be easily wiped off with a paper towel. And my Grandma just said to my husband, "I think Brandi finally met her destiny when she became a mother." Hmmmm. Gotta get back in the kitchen where I can do more womanly stuff.

Delta can suck it. They are the worst and yeah, why don't they let kids board first, it saves time?!?! Some airlines still do, we fly them now. Tho it was Continental that kept us on the Tarmac in Costa Rica for 2+ hours while Maire's face melted off and refused to give us ice until we threatened kill them.

Glad to hear she's a trooper, Maire loves to fly, I think it's fun to take kids places. I hear Germany is nice...

Enjoy the rest of your trip. Remember next time NYC is farther north and MUCH cooler. :)

First, the previous poster was right on. The northeast is a much better choice for June. And I won't beleaguer that point further...

Second- why is it that every time I fly, they call for people with small children first? Is it a perception thing, or are we both flying the exact wrong airlines? Truth be told I'd rather board last, anyway. The less time that I have to spend crammed on a plane, the better.
Love the pic of her looking the world traveler part by the plane window. You can see the 'tude in her eyes.

Every single effin' time I flew before I had a kid, kids got to board first. No more. At least on Delta and United. Bitches, all of them.
