Wow. This is the last month before you turn two. And I know that any mother would say the same old thing, but I honestly cannot believe it. It seems like your first birthday was just a month or two ago. Groundbreaking realizations, right? Cut me some slack – you’re my first almost two year old, and it’s all still a little new.
You’ve been doing a lot more talking this month, and you can also remember the names of your favorite people: GG, Hope (Hop), Mom (your Grandma, whom you call Mom because you’ve heard me call her that), Jan (Han), Roy (Oy), Hans (Hanth), Uschi (Ischi) and Ella. Oh, and Didi, but that’s nothing new. When you’re not talking about people, you’re jabbering and jabbering, and sometimes we can pick up a word or two, but mostly it’s like you’ve made up your own language.
Your love for your babies has also begun to spiral out of control. If we are at someone else’s house – someone who perhaps also has a kid who has dolls – then it’s toddler trouble just waiting to happen. At a recent birthday party, you snatched a little girl’s doll that was laying on top of all the coats …
At home, you’ll drag your favorite baby – whose name we are unsure of – by her hair. You like to wash her hair and feed her and brush her teeth and make her sit next to you in all situations. She is also unfortunately always naked, which kind of makes for sad and kind of bizarre photos.

You’re also getting very good at asserting your independence, which manifests itself in your demanding to do a lot of things by yourself. You’ll say “Harper” when you want to do something, and you will promptly burst into tears if we do not give into your strange baby wishes right away (cutting your finger nails on your own … driving the car … packing your little purse and going to GG’s) …
Your newest favorite thing to play with is Play-Doh – or moosh, as you call it, thanks to your Grandma visiting and telling you to “moosh” the Play-Doh. This stuff has cause lots of flights at our house, mainly because of your uncontrollable desire to eat it. Everytime we let you play with it, it’s always with the reminder, “Don’t eat it,” to which you respond, “No, no.” Long story short, you usually end up eating some, which leads to it be taken away, which in turn leads to tears, tears, tears.
Speaking of Grandma, aka Mom, you had a very nice time with her, since you had someone giving you her undivided attention for two solid weeks. And she let you pretty much do whatever you wanted:
We got you a big-girl bed this month, which is right next to ours and does absolutely nothing to keep you from rolling over to me, waking me up in the middle of the night with your heels in my bladder. You’re like a heat-seeking missile; maybe we should let Lilly sleep in your bed as a decoy. But, as it is now, I usually wake up in your bed in morning in an effort to find a comfortable place to sleep. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: You’re damn lucky you’re cute, kid.
We celebrated Halloween this month in Wiesbaden with Kellie and Lille. You weren’t too crazy about your monkey costume, but you kindly went along with it.
You weren’t really able to say “trick or treat,” but you did always say “thank you” once you got your candy, which made your daddy and I feel like the best parents ever. A few days after Halloween, you and I finally got around to carving our jack-o-lantern, which offered you your first peek inside a pumpkin.
You’ve also recently gotten into the habit of making people toast with not only glasses of drinks, but also with items of food. We can’t eat anything together without you holding out your food and saying, “Cheers! Cheers!” Which might say something about the amount of beer we drink around here…
Peeing on the potty has also been working out pretty well, and you even managed to … uh, as the Germans say … make big on the toilet once. While this information might seem insignificant or otherwise totally gross, let me tell you that your father called me at work that afternoon, bursting with pride that you had shit on the toilet. Sadly, you keep forgetting to tell us when you have to poo, so it looks like we’ll still be changing your, in your words, icky diapers for a while.
Anyway. One more month, and then you’re two. Surely you’ll get the hang of it soon enough. After all, you are very intellegent:

This month’s nicknames: Gum Gum, Baby Bear, Snacky
This month’s song: Rule the World with Love by Barenaked Ladies
