Today's Good Friday, and the one thing that's really good about it is that it is a national holiday. Easter is a four-day ordeal here, and thanks to sleet and snow last night, the interstates were clogged with accidents. We're staying put in our toasty Frankfurt apartment; the rest of the family is in Austria, which is normally where we'd be, too, if it weren't for our meddling dog. See, Mr. Husband's mother comes from Austria, and his parents built a house there in the early 1990s. They go there often on vacation, and plan on moving there, hopefully sooner than later. For Björn and me, there are cousins and the kids of cousins and uncles and aunts who all have farms, and it's usually just a good old time being with them all.
But since we bought a dog, my in-laws won't let us stay in their house. Nevermind the fact that, when not otherwise engaged in eating or snuggling, Lilly can be found sleeping. Anyway, this decree was brought on last September, when I had some time off and we wanted to visit the family. The in-laws told us that they didn't want a dog in the house. So so.
We're not really the fightin' kind, and so we simply made it clear that if the dog wasn't allowed in the house, then spending any holidays with them. Shortly before Christmas, Björn's dad offered to pay for us to put Lilly up in a doggie boarding house, which we politely declined. So, long story short, this is our first Easter as Team Hertig-Schuster without being able to spend it with the Austrians. We'll particularly miss the bonfire and drinking wine with Uncle Karl.
But this is not what I set out to post, dear readers. What I actually wanted to say was that during all holidays that fall on a weekday in Germany, the television programming is absolutely, positively atrocious. All channels show the same movies, most of them relics from the 1970s and coming from Eastern European countries that no longer exist. They are usually based on creepy fables and are filmed in a way that would make them perfect MST3K candidates.
Plus, Clueless is on now, which is making the 1990s look kinda shitty. What did ever happen to rad skateboard competitions on Saturday afternoons? But Paul Rudd was hot, and he's wearing a KU hat in the movie. It's 1:30 in the afternoon; too early for wine?

Oh it's *never* too early for wine, and Paul Rudd is crazy hot in that movie - KU hat included. Love that he's a tag, btw.
Personally I think it kicks ass that you're sticking up for your kid; you'll make great parents (to humans, even!) someday. ;)
