Zero (or...one year)

So many days, week and months have passed since this moment, when Harper was born, and yet, it was all just a blink of an eye. Still, there are light years between who we were one year ago today and who we are now. And there was nothing that could have prepared us for it.

We have been very fortunate, and yes, I'll say it, blessed, with this charming, hilarious, sweet and very naughty little girl. I can only assume that Björn and I have been good people in the whole scheme of things, otherwise karma might have taken this opportunity to give us both swift kicks in our asses.

Not that this last year has been easy. Not on me, not on Björn, not on our marriage and, increasingly, not on Lilly. I should've taken a picture of my forehead last year, because I know that the wrinkles I have there were not there before. And if we have learned anything in 2009, it's that the rules of parenting change every day.

I guess life has become more cumbersome in that there are a thousand little things we have to do before we leave the house, but we don't even notice that. It's just the way it is. As long as the kid is happy and healthy, then so are we.

And now, off to the toddler years. Holy shit.
